Filtering Incoming Emails
The FilterMAIL! service is usually deployed as a standard email filter to stop spam and viruses from infiltrating the system. In this setup, the MX record for the domain is diverted to a FilterMAIL! server and the incoming email must pass through the different defense shields. The defense shields have been configured in such a way to maximise spam detection while minimising false positives. |

Domain Black List Blocking Shield
This Defense Shield stops known spam domains from sending spam to the user.

IP White List Allowing Shield
This Defense Shield allows previously known good hosts (e.g. business partners) to send mail without any false positives.

IP Gray List Shield
Every IP address has a probability of sending out spam. The FilterMAIL! network keeps a probability of the known IP addresses that send out spam. This probability is then used in another Defense Shield to determine if the mail is spam. |

Dangerous Attachment Shield
This Defense Shield removes dangerous attachments by type. For example, .BAT, .CMD, .SCR etc attachments are removed.

Virus Protection Shield with Archive Decompression
This Defense Shield removes viruses like WORD macro viruses and other viruses zipped in archives. FilterMAIL! uses open source virus scanners coupled with commercial ones to ensure maximum protection and minimal vulnerability period.

User Defined Virus Checking Shield
Using this shield, FilterMAIL! administrators regularly define strings or regular expressions to detect a mail as containing a virus.

User Defined Rule Shield
Using this shield, FilterMAIL! administrators regularly define words, phrases or regular expressions to detect a mail as spam. In addition, each user has her own personal Rule Center in which she can define her own rules. |

Spam Innoculation Shield
This Defense Shield downloads inoculation data from FilterMAIL! to determine if an incoming mail is spam. FilterMAIL! has deployed honey pot email addresses all over to harvest spam and generate identification data for them. |

Non-NaĆïve Bayesian Statistical Analysing Shield
FilterMAIL! does not use a naïve Bayesian analyser as spammers have beaten that recently via Bayesian Poisoning techniques. Instead, FilterMAIL! uses a more advanced form with limited Markovian chains that drastically improves the spam detection rate. |

Rule Based Spam Scoring Shield
FilterMAIL! utilises the popular Spam Assassin scoring system to score a spam mail.

Future Shield
FilterMAIL! infrastructure is designed to be easily upgraded with new Defense Shields as spamming techniques improve over time. The FilterMAIL! Research Team regularly comes up with new Defense Shields that improve the spam protection capability of the FilterMAIL! service. |
